What To Inspect Before Your Next RV Trip

Taking an RV trip is an adventure that takes a road trip to the next level. It is also a regular way of life for some. You get to explore new places and see the country differently. But before you hit the road, it’s important to make sure your RV is safe and is ready for the journey.

Here’s a checklist of things to inspect before your next RV trip.

Tires

Your RV’s tires are crucial for a safe trip. Check the tread and pressure of all tires, including the spare. It’s also a good idea to bring along a tire pressure gauge and a portable air compressor, just in case you need to top off the pressure while on the road. Your tire tread should always be at least 1/8 inch deep.

If your RV has dual wheels, be sure to check the condition of the tire valves and stems.

Brakes

Inspect your RV’s brakes and make sure they’re in good working order. If you’re not comfortable doing this yourself, take it to a qualified mechanic. The brakes should be checked at least once a year, even if you don’t use the RV during that time.

Lights

Check all the lights on your RV, including the headlights, taillights, brake lights, and turn signals. Make sure they’re all clean and working properly.

Fluids

Check your RV’s fluid levels, including the engine oil, coolant, and power steering fluid. Again, consult your RV’s owner’s manual if you’re not sure how to do this. Make sure the oil is changed if it’s due.

Windows and Mirrors

Clean the windows and mirrors on your RV, inside and out. This will help you see better while driving. Check for any cracks or damage and replace any damaged glass before your trip.

Windshield Wipers

Inspect your windshield wipers and replace them if they’re worn. It’s also a good idea to bring along extra windshield wiper fluid. You can tell they are worn out if they are leaving streaks on your windshield when you use them.

Fire Extinguisher

Make sure you have a fire extinguisher onboard and that it’s in good working order. Check the condition of the hose and nozzle, and make sure the gauge is in the green zone.

There are different classes of fire extinguishers, so be sure to get one that’s appropriate for your RV.

Emergency Kit

Putting together an emergency kit is a good idea for any road trip, not just an RV trip. Your kit should include things like first-aid supplies, a flashlight, a whistle, and a map. You can also include extras like non-perishable food and water, blankets, and a spare tire.

Prepare Your RV for Your Vacation

In conclusion, no matter how eager you are to set out on the road, make sure your RV is completely prepared for your trip. By using the above checklist, you can be sure that your RV is safe and ready for your next adventure.
